I am using a RTX 3070 with the 560.31.02 drivers on Gnome 46.4. When I run games on X11 the GPU utilization is always aroung 100% but when switching to Wayland the GPU utilization never reaches / gets close to 100% and always stays at around 70%. This happens on games running through Proton, for example Red Dead Redemption 2. This obviously impacts performance in a bad way. There is also no overheating that can cause the GPU to throttle.
I already tried:
- Switching distros (Fedora, CachyOS)
- Switching kernels (Stock kernel, CachyOS kernel)
- Switching driver versions (550, 555, 560)
- Switching desktop enviornments (KDE, Gnome)
- Disabling / Enabling VRR
- Disabling / Enabling VSync
- Changing power profiles
Any help would be appreciated.
