I just encountered a strange issue (that I never encountered so far), that caused very bad display “stuttering” (short freezes) and forced me to close all applications, exit the X11 session and restart it.
The /var/log/messages file contained a couple dozen of lines such as:
NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:01:00): 13, NVRM: Graphics TEX Exception on (GPC 0, TPC 0): TEX NACK / Page Fault NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:01:00): 13, Graphics Exception: ESR 0x504224=0x80000041 0x504228=0x200800c0 0x50422c=0x221 0x504234=0x0
There was one OpenGL application running (a Second Life viewer), a browser (Pale Moon, a Firefox fork) and VLC running when this happened.
