How to install a GTX 680 in Linux Centos 6.3 Help.

I am getting an error when I install my Nvidia GTX 680 drivers. I get a error message

“You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before
installing. For further details, please see the section INSTALLING
THE NVIDIA DRIVER in the README available on the Linux driver
download page at www.nvidia.com.”

“Installation has failed. Please see the file
‘/var/log/nvidia-installer.log’ for details. You may find
suggestions on fixing installation problems in the README available
on the Linux driver download page at www.nvidia.com.”

I am fairly new to Centos but I am getting around very well but I am stuck about this. I am a avid Windows 8 user and not used to getting stuck installing drivers. Hard to find a manual how to do this.

Linux 64 bit Centos 6.3 Nvidia gtx680 Drivers

su -
init 3

Login. Install NVIDIA drivers.

Alternatively (and it’s a much better solution) use rpmfusion drivers.

I installed nVidia drivers in CentOS a while back… used the procedures at this site:

Lots of good info for RHEL/CentOS/Scientific Linux there…
