Implementing multi-rate Ethernet (1G/2.5G/10G) with Jetson AGX Orin MGBE

Hi everyone,

I am currently working on a project using the Jetson AGX Orin SOM. I understand that the module features a built-in MGBE (Multi-Gigabit Ethernet) controller.

We have a requirement to expand the network capability to support three distinct interfaces: 1GbE, 2.5GbE, and 10GbE.

Could anyone provide recommendations or best practices for this architecture? Specifically, I am looking for:

  1. Recommended hardware configurations (e.g., suitable Switch ICs or PHY combinations) to interface with the Orin’s MGBE controller.
  2. Any architectural considerations or potential bottlenecks when handling these varying speeds simultaneously.

Any insights or reference designs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Jetson AGX Orin supports up to 1x MGBE port, so if your use case requires all three speeds working simultaneously, you would need an external Ethernet switch.

Ethernet switches are not included in the Jetson SCL but 88Q5152-B1 (Infineon) and RTL9072DA-VA (Realtek) would be a good starting point to review, though driver support on Jetson Linux (L4T) would need to be verified separately.
