KDE Plasma [396.24] Desktop freeze after 2-3min of running games

I am running OpenSUSE Tumbleweed 180502 with 4.16.6 kernel and 396.24 driver. Video card is GTX970 and CPU is AMD FX-9370 with 16Gb RAM.

When running graphically-intensive games the entire desktop will lock-up after 2-3min of play in Rise of the Tomb Raider; 30-45min of play in Ruiner and 60-90min of play in Atom RPG. The only solution is to do a hard reset and not even ‘REISUB’ works.

I’ve been through the various game forums and tried the suggested fixes (particularly in RoTR), but cannot seem to isolate the source of the crashes. When using regular desktop applications such as Chrome or LibreOffice, there is no crash.

No errors visible in nvidia-bug-report. Can you ssh in from another computer/smartphone when issue hits and then run nvidia-bug-report.sh? Did you try with a 390 driver? A guess would be to check your psu.
