KDE Plasma desktop locks up and reboots with 4.14 kernel

Hi all,

I’m using OpenSUSE Tumbleweed with 390.12 driver (have also tried 387.34 & 384.111) and have been having some nasty lock-ups whilst using graphical programs. Desktop is KDE Plasma 5.11.

The main issues are if I play Grim Dawn via WINE, or if I start Steam though it has randomly occurred at other times. This behaviour occurs with kernels 4.11, 4.13 & 4.14.

The desktop completely locks up and even the REISUB does not work. After a couple of minutes the system will sometimes reboot.

Here is the bug report for when Steam crashed https://drive.google.com/file/d/1S18xGIx5leqG9VHpjaccmSmLZvTduUb3/view?usp=sharing

Can anyone assist?

Your nvidia driver install is broken it uses mesa glx which doesn’t really work. Just purge and reinstall.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve fixed the incorrect symlinks and have removed and reinstalled the driver but with no discernible difference.

Strangely, if I use the 4.12 kernel from the Jengelh’s OpenSUSE repository I do not get the desktop freezes.

Is there anything else I should be looking for?
