NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn’t communicate with the NVIDIA driver. On Ubuntu 20.04

I have problems with Nvidia drivers, on Xubuntu 20.04. When running nvidia-smi , I get:

nvidia-smi
NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the
latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

And as for nvidia-settings:

ERROR: NVIDIA driver is not loaded

ERROR: Unable to load info from any available system

(nvidia-settings:41145): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: 16:01:53.531: g_object_unref: assertion 'G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
** Message: 16:01:53.538: PRIME: No offloading required. Abort
** Message: 16:01:53.539: PRIME: is it supported? no

And:

sudo dkms status
nvidia, 390.138, 5.4.0-40-generic, x86_64: installed

I don’t have /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nvidia.conf file.
