NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver (rtx 3080ti laptop)

I have fought for a few days with Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS on my laptop (with rtx 3080ti)

As the last step, I wanted to install the Nvidia driver. I have tried to follow many different guides, with no success. After the installation and reboot, it always came to the error:
NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn’t communicate with the NVIDIA driver

Before the report was generated, I tried nvidia-driver-470 (proprietary) from Software & Updates (Additional Drivers)

I could really use your expertise.

Some info on hardware and OS:

  • Razer Blade 15 2022
  • i7-12800H + rtx 3080ti
  • Ubuntu 22.04.3 (kernel 6.6.5-060605-generic) as a dual boot system alongside Windows 11 (installed on a separate partition).
  • SecureBoot disabled
  • Everything works just fine on Windows 11. I need Ubuntu for development.

You have a kernel from mainline with incompatible header package installed so the driver doesn’t compile. Please uninstall it and add the liquorix ppa instead to install a compatible latest kernel.

I really appreciate your help. Meanwhile, I have switched to WSL2 and it works out of the box.
If I somehow have to come back to pure Ubuntu again, I will consider your solution.
