openSuSE 12.3 - crash when enabling twinview

Hi,

Xorg is crashing when enabling twin-view…
I am posting here since they won’t want to hear anything since I am using a tainted module.

Thanks for your help!
fred

i am also running openSUSE 12.3 (and 12.2 before) with latest nvidia driver and twinview, but without problems.
at least without well known, old problems. ;-)

I downloaded the driver myself from https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/533434/linux/current-graphics-driver-releases/ and installed it using the nvidia installer.

i configured twinview with these lines in the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/15-nvidia.conf:

Option "TwinView" "1"
  Option "TwinViewXineramaInfoOrder" "DFP-0, DFP-1"
  Option "metamodes" "DFP-0: 1680x1050 +0+0, DFP-1:nvidia-auto-select+1680+0"
  Option "TwinViewOrientation" "DFP-0 LeftOf DFP-1"

the only thing i noticed after latest X update is this warning in /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

(WW) NVIDIA: This server has an unsupported input driver ABI version (have 19.1, need < 19.0). The driver will continue to load, but may behave strangely.

but it works.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Could you please let me know your nvidia driver version? Stable or beta?

I do differently. I don’t have a separate nvidia.conf file, and I use the nvidia-settings application whenever I use my docking station to configure my screens. Otherwise, whenever I undock, it is a mess.

Thanks.
fred

i use 313.26
this ist the newest available.

strange.
i also use a dockingstation at work and no dockingstation at home.
i don’t have anything to do about that.
i configured twinview, but it will not be uesd, when (at home) the second screen is not found.
works perfectly at home and at work.

hmm ok. What graphic card do you have (lspci).
I have a NVS 4200M. When I go the latest stable version of the driver for this mobile card, I have version 310.40.

Maybe country release? I don’t even see your version in the beta drivers list :/

i have a quadro fx 1600m

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G84 [Quadro FX 1600M] (rev a1)

here is the link to the drivers page:
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/533434/linux/current-graphics-driver-releases/
and here to the latest release 313.26:
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/533558

I just tried 313.26, works much better :)

Thanks.
