Question about the PCIe adapter speed

We want to use PCIe ethernet adapters to send camera pictures from a xavier to another one. Now we have connected two xaviers through Mellanox connectx-5 adapters. The adapter is PCIex16 with 100Gb/s speed, and the xavier has PCIex16 slot with PCIex8 bandwidth we think. So ideally, we are supposed to get close to 50Gb/s. But now, we can only achieve to about 19Gb by the tool ‘iperf’. We have made several tries on different configurations, but none of them can make significant improvements. Attached pictures are some detailed information about our setups. Suggestions on how to improve the speed are welcome!

Could you please attach the output of ‘sudo lspci -vvvv’ ?

This is not the actual output of “sudo lspci -vvv” (a fourth “-v” doesn’t actually do anything). This lacks a lot of information as is. Make sure you use “sudo” for the more verbose lspci since only root can actually query in that much detail. Once you get that there will be lines in the log with transfer speeds (search for “GT/s”). Some of those lines are capabilities, other of those lines are actual speeds.

thanks for your reply . I have runned the command “sudo lspci -vvvv” as you said. the output is as below . all the information about “GT/S” are bolded.

jetson@jetson-desktop:~$ sudo lspci -vvv

You can edit your post (pencil icon at the lower right of an existing post) and put a line above and a line below the lspci log which is entirely three back quote (unshifted tilde key) characters, and it’ll add scrollbars and preserve formatting. Example line:
```
Note that the “LinkCap” is what speed the link is capable of, and is rated in “GT/s”. The “LinkSta” is the actual current speed status. If “LinkCap” is the same GT/s as “LinkSta”, then things are not only operating correctly, but are at their best speed. If the “LinkCap” is higher than “LinkSta”, then either something upstream does not support that high of a capability and it has reverted to a lower speed, or else the signal quality is suffering and there was no choice but slowing down. Sometimes things slow so much that no communications speed is possible.
Anything “8GT/s” is PCIe gen. 3. “5GT/s” is PCIe gen. 2. “2.5GT/s” is PCIe gen. 1.
Not all devices have advanced error reporting, but if you see “AERCap”, this is part of advanced error reporting. If the “First Error Pointer” is NULL (“00”) then there are no reported errors. Note that you have some devices with a non-NULL error pointer, “04”. This is a sign that something is in such a bad error state that correction is required, but it doesn’t say if correction is possible. It is rare to see a non-NULL first error pointer, so this is a serious problem even if AER is able to correct.
Some abbreviations are listed in the “Capabilities: [100 v1] Advanced Error Reporting”, but mostly this would require research to have any meaning. Typically the “+” or “-” has a meaning there possibly related to whether or not that classification of error was found (but like I said, you’d have to research to know its meaning, and this is rarely useful for any solution since it is often an electrical issue).
About the only kind of user solvable AER problem might be if the hardware in question requires firmware uploaded into the device, and the wrong firmware version is present, or else missing. Not many devices (aside from WiFi devices licensed to some part of the world) use extra firmware. Some specialty devices might have an error if they need time to boot and were tested before boot is complete.
I see that the PCIe link with Mellanox device has come up in Gen-4 (16GT/s) speed and x8 link width from the Link Status (LnkSta) registers.
So, This is a good enough configuration to get 100 Gb/s PCIe bandwidth.
But, I’m wondering what is the kind of Ethernet interface through which the Mellanox device is sending/receiving the data out/in.
If that interface is limiting the bandwidth (say at 25 Gb/s or 50 Gb/s for whatever reason), then, obviously we don’t see a higher value (i.e. 100 Gb/s)
