Selecting GPU on vSphere for 2D application Windows&Doors application

Hi,
came here for help. Haven’t been dealing with GPU or vGPU before. Have customer running some kind of 2D CAD applications for Windows&Doors production. Vendor is small and don’t have much of testing or experience in virtualized environments so their proposal is to run it on PC wih nVIDIA cards as physical installation. Customer is not in position to replace vendor since nothing is avaliable on market to replace it and high level of integrations in other processes.

Here is enviroment:

  • Vmware vSphere Essentials now, will be vmware vSphere Standard with new licencing
  • we can get any or HPE or Lenovo servers in any configuration (this is new purchase)
  • We have 1 VM running on Windows 2022 and we have allocated a lot of resources to this VM.
  • current number of users is 35 but will grow to 50-60 in next 3 to 5 years
  • we can’t farm this application due some limitations imposed by vendor (maybe this can be done in near future)
  • protocol in use is RDP with RDS for utilizing this app

What would be best setup?

You need to use multiple VMs with RDSH. CCU per RDSH VM shouldn’t run higher than 30 and you will need ~16GB of GPU memory per RDSH VM. So you could either use a A16 GPU or 2 L4 GPUs as a hardware config.
