Can you please run nvidia-bug-report.sh and attach the nvidia-bug-report.log.gz file here?
Edit: I should mention that the 390.* series of drivers is no longer supported. If you have a GeForce GTX 980M then it’s still supported by the latest drivers. Please see this post for a list of the latest releases and Appendix A of the driver README for a list of which GPU products are supported by which set of drivers.
