Support for eMMC5.1 on Orin NX/Nano

Although not specifically mentioned in their data sheets, the Orin NX/Nano modules have an area for a BGA component, next to the microSD footprint, on the back side of the PCB. It looks like this is for eMMC storage; could someone from NVIDIA confirm this? If that’s the case, can you share some documentation about which components are supported and how to utilize it?

As the Data Sheet specifies, for Jetson Orin Nano series and Jetson Orin NX series, external storage is required like NVMe via PCIe. eMMC and microSD are not supported on the modules.

The Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit module has a microSD slot and according to the Jetson Orin NX/Nano Design Guide pins 219, 221, 223, 225, 227, 229 are enumerated as both SDMMC_xxx and PCIE2/3_xxx 😉; but I’ll interpret your answer as: it’s not officially supported (right now).

My guess is that NVidia ran out of pins on the SODIMM connector. The SOC itself seems to still have EMMC/SDMMC controllers, but the external pins are assigned to an extra PCIe (which is often more useful). The onboard EMMC has probably left out due to supply and cost issues.
