Trouble getting raspberry pi camera to work

i am learning about my new jetson nano. i am using jetpack 4.4, and a raspberry pi V2 camera. i cannot get the camera to display any images when i test it. any assistance is greatly appreciated. i am not sure how to start troubleshooting. here ishow i am testing it:

You would first check if imx219 driver succesfully probed your camera;

dmesg | grep imx219

First line and last line show that first camera was detected, other say than no second camera was probed.

So I have video0 node only (with no USB cam connected):

ls /dev/video*
/dev/video0

So it should be possible to use first camera.
Note it some cases you may have fooled nvargus-daemon.service, so you may restart it:

sudo systemctl restart nvargus-daemon.service

Then you should be able to run:

gst-launch-1.0 nvarguscamerasrc ! nvoverlaysink

it’s my curiosity why there’s permission denied failure by checking the video nodes.

these errors should related to display rendering.
are you running at command mode, had you install X window for ubuntu desktop.


please check developer guide, you may refer to Applications Using V4L2 IOCTL Directly session.
please enable V4L2 IOCTL to verify basic functionality during sensor bring-up.

thank you. i have no idea it say permission denied, but i would think it is something i did incorrectly when setting things up. here is what i get when i visited the link you provided:

i forgot to mention, i am running from the terminal. i do not recall installing X windows for ubuntu.

This is probably because you issued that command (which is not correct):

/dev/video0

v4l2-ctl command is provided by apt packeage v4l-utils. You would install it with:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install v4l-utils

and retry v4l2-ctl.

did you have software modifications? did you install JetPack-4.4 release via SDKManager?

i do not think i used SDK manager. i believe i simply installed jetpack 4.4. if i start from scratch, should i install jetpack 4.4 via sdk manager?

It is unclear what is your problem now you have v4l2-ctl.

This should produce a file ov5693.raw (note you are probably using another sensor than ov5693 with Nano) with a single frame in bayer RG10 format (file may be 2 bytes (16 bits) per 10bits value) .

Also note that you should add bypass=0 so that it doesn’t interferes with argus that may use the same camera.
In case argus daemon is broken:

sudo systemctl restart nvargus-daemon.service

And capture with:

v4l2-ctl --set-fmt-video=width=1920,height=1080,pixelformat=RG10 --set-ctrl bypass_mode=0 --stream-mmap --stream-count=1 -d /dev/video0 --stream-to=imx219.RG10

I can’t tell any viewer for Bayer RG10 format.
For checking framerate, you may try to run acquisition for more than one frame (here 10s, so 3000 frames):

v4l2-ctl --set-fmt-video=width=1920,height=1080,pixelformat=RG10 --set-ctrl bypass_mode=0 --stream-mmap --stream-count=3000 -d /dev/video0 --stream-to=imx219.RG10

For seeing image, you may try debayering with nvarguscamera in gstreamer.
As you don’t have X running, not sure but you may try :

# This may display as ascii art in terminal:
gst-launch-1.0 -v nvarguscamerasrc ! nvvidconv ! videoconvert ! cacasink

# Or try to make a H264 video (here 10s so 3000 frames)
# You would transfer it to another computing able to display

FYI, nvarguscamerasrc to render camera frames with X window,
you may have a try to execute $ xinit & to initialize the service before running gst commands to display the frame.
