Ubuntu 18.04 core image for custom rootfs

Hi everyone,

I want to build my own rootfs based on ubuntu 18.04 but can’t seem to find a fitting base package. For 16.04 there where tar archives of the ubuntu core filesystem available that could easily be extended but I can’t seem to find them for the new release.

Are they still provided or is there a new way for building filesystems?

Thanks
Martin

Found the solution myself. A simple tar archive containing the ubuntu rootfs can be created using debootstrap:

sudo debootstrap bionic ~/rootfs http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/
cd ~/rootfs
sudo tar -cpzf ../ubuntu_18.04_aarch64.tar.gz .

This command should run on a TX2 or a device with a similar arm cpu.
