Ubuntu 18 and nvidia-460 driver not working

I started using a external display on my Asus Tuf gaming laptop with Windows 10 and Ubuntu 18.04. On Windows it works fine, but on Ubuntu it does not work.
When running nvidia-settings, this is the output:

(nvidia-settings:5234): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: 19:57:45.751: g_object_unref: assertion ‘G_IS_OBJECT (object)’ failed

ERROR: nvidia-settings could not find the registry key file. This file should
have been installed along with this driver at
/usr/share/nvidia/nvidia-application-profiles-key-documentation. The
application profiles will continue to work, but values cannot be
prepopulated or validated, and will not be listed in the help text.
Please see the README for possible values and descriptions.

AMD/Nvidia hybrid graphics are only fully supported starting with Ubuntu 20.04, 18.04 needs manual tweaks
