Left monitor is currently frozen on a signal call long after the end of the call. After running journalctl -f, the following message appears:
kwin_wayland_drm: Pageflip timed out! This is a bug in the nvidia-drm kernel driver kwin_wayland_drm: Please report this at https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/c/gpu-grap[dmesg-output.txt|attachment](upload://kZvkWg6BMdVmTTbTV6QN2uxLSx.txt) (115.3 KB) [plasma-journal-output.txt|attachment](upload://lqD4yO9uWr9K3H5ArYGedQNKXAb.txt) (3.9 MB) hics/linux kwin_wayland_drm: With the output of 'sudo dmesg' and 'journalctl --user-unit plasma-kwin_wayland --boot 0'
This message is continuously sent on loop ever since the freezing. Another message that gets continuously sent:
kwin_wayland_drm: Failed to create a framebuffer: Invalid argument
I also have been experiencing frequent system freezing. It does tend to happen whenever I Fullscreen my terminal in 2nd monitor while neovim is open in the terminal, and this started at the same time as the above issue. Whenever one of these freezes occurs, the system is entirely unresponsive short of a Magic Sysrq, unable to even drop into a tty.
I’ve been getting the exact same issue with what seems to be a similar system (KDE Plasma 6.3.2 on Wayland, 3 monitors, driver 570.124.04)
Will send a bug report log when the issue arises again
Not a solution, but for now I’ve been able to “fix” the issue by restarting kwin (logging out and back in or just using killall both seem to work)
issue happened again, here are all the logs I got
2 of them are as asked by the following error message kwin_wayland_drm: With the output of 'sudo dmesg' and 'journalctl --user-unit plasma-kwin_wayland --boot 0' third one is after running the nvidia-bug-report.sh script dmesg-log.txt (92.4 KB) nvidia-bug-report.log.gz (11.8 MB) journalctl-log.txt (14.7 MB)
I’ve had about a 90% repro rate with screens turning off and on from the DE in Plasma on Arch Linux on a 4090 with GSP off (verified) on 570.124.04.
It froze the output, not even TTY switching worked after (SSH did), and threw the pageflip errors as OP had, requiring a REISUB or hard poweroff after.
After setting “Turn off screen” to Never in Plasma Power Management settings, I’ve not had it once in 2 days+, and I do a full power-off of both my DP-connected screens (third connected Phillips TV via HDMI is not on-on, but connected and standby) by the hardware button.
I’ve had the issue despite having the “Turn off screen” option set to Never on Plasma.
May be a trigger but it doesn’t seem like its the root of the issue
I’m having this issue also. 570.124.04 drivers. Tried all kinds of kernel settings and nothing seems to work. I can reproduce this 100% of the time. I run 3 monitors. I use the middle one for work during the day(HDMI) and for my main PC the rest of the time(Display Port). Switching from DP to HDMI doesn’t cause any issues but as soon as I finish work and try to go from HDMI back to DP it freezes my system as soon as I move my mouse. journalctl has the pageflip errors.
I’m having the same exact issue in Endeavour OS:
My secondary montior completely freezes and I get the pageflip timed out message in my journalctl log.
I’m currently using kernel 6.12.18-1-lts, drivers 570.124.04 and my GPU is a 4070 Ti Super
Attached are my log files:
I’ve found a fix for my situation at least
I had the defaults for the sddm wayland configuration which was using kiosk
following the arch wiki page for SDDM and directly setting kwin as the CompositorCommand seems to have fixed the issue for me (48h + of uptime and no problems so far)
I have a samsung 49" that has this issue, but if swap cables to my 34" Lenovo, it reset the resolution and it behaves fine. Somewhere I found reference to this being related to the screen resolution, and if I manage to lower it before the blanking starts on the Samsung it seems to be okay.
