565 release feedback & discussion

I’m getting strange stuttering and fps loss in overwatch 2 via steam with ge proton any version after it’s been running for about 10 minutes. It’s not shader caching because I have pre-load caching and after it’s been running for that long it’s smooth until the stutter starts. It persists until I restart the game. I’m going to try to investigate further but each time it’s happened I’ve been in a match and haven’t been able to pinpoint it. I thought it might be proton problem til I tried different versions. I had also recently installed updates to dxvk and vkd3d so I don’t know if that’s contributing but I never had these problems before. One week ago I installed 565.77 after having been on 560.35 with few issues other than crashing once in a while on resume from sleep. That has been better on 565.77 but the stuttering is really bad. Also WoW has caused my whole system to pause a few times but I do wonder if that’s a shader caching issue. Hoping for a new driver release soon though. Will update when I investigate further.
openSUSE Tumbleweed, 4070 Super, 5800x3d

It might be because of this because it sounds very similar:

“Actually, I just played overwatch 2 and did run into the same issue.”

The same thing happens when I run the web version of Sparrow Soul Mahjong using firefox.

Vulkan renderer not working in path of exile 2 ( black screen ).

looks fine for me on latest Hyprland with vesktop running in wayland native.

Yes sorry the overwatch issue is the known steam issue fixed with LD_PRELOAD=“” %command% as a launch option

I’ve seen other people reporting this issue, it might be an Electron/Gnome issue, but I think the chances of being a Gnome issue are higher because all the people reporting it are Using Gnome, including me

same in spottify running
in logs
maybe vkbasalt caused?

well maybe try on something else and see if you have the same issue

Caught a random crash in driver 565.57.01. Maybe it was in previous ones too, I don’t know how to reproduce it.

I’m using Linux Mint 21.3

Xorg: 1.21.1.4

Yes I can confirm it’s a GNOME only thing, on KDE i can resize it.

Bitwarden had the same problem: The window is no longer resizable (Flatpak, Linux) · Issue #11404 · bitwarden/clients · GitHub

Looks like it’s an electron bug that makes windows unresizable on gnome + Wayland

higher kernel ( 6.10+) versions give a lot of trouble first integrating at install time and if that works (by downgrading) booting into the desktop is almost always a fail. kernel developers on liquorix.net had some choice words for it. please fix higer kernel version compatibility.

I’m still stuck on 555.58.02 with my laptop ( i9-13900HX → RTX 4080 Max-Q Mobile )

Since 560 any demanding task at some point freezes or crashes.
I can still switch workspaces and stuff but I cannot open anything anymore and have to reboot.

I always test 6.10 - 6.13RC but it doesnt look like its bound to the kernel.

When I run anything demanding ( like a game, or the unigine superposition benchmark ) at some point it throws these errors

kernel: NVRM: GPU at PCI:0000:01:00: GPU-f6cd1b06-0e50-622e-08d9-5b44281bcb65

kernel: NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:01:00): 154, pid='<unknown>', name=<unknown>, GPU recovery action changed from 0x0 (None) to 0x1 (GPU Reset Required

At that point everytime I try to open something it immediately segfaults like this

It looks like this happens only on ( at least? ) 120hz tho.
It at least looks like it doesnt happen on 60hz.

Is anyone aware of this or any similiar issue ?

This needs to be looked at, there’s no response in the thread.
