Black screen on startx/Slackware 15/Kernel 5.15.136/Driver 390.157

I’m migrating an old Optiplex to Slackware 15.0. It has a Quadro 2000 card, and in trying the 390.157 driver, I’m hitting a irrecoverable black screen. The only change in the runtime support was changing libc to 2.38 because 2.33 had a bug that kept QEMU/KVM from running.
The machine is not locked up, and I can run and reboot from the outside, but there is no video after running startx. I’m attaching the bug report as suggested. Any clues are welcome.

Please delete /etc/X11/xorg.conf as it’s quite messy.
Then please clean the heatsink/fan of the nvidia gpu, it’s running hot.
The driver is working but Xorg seems to be freezing on startup. Might be the gpu is starting to fail.
