Cannot disable Frame Rate Limiter on L40

Hi

I seem to be having an issue where I cannot disable the Frame Rate Limiter on L40 GPUs and am stuck at 60FPS. I’m running a 3D benchmark that displays a real time FPS counter which is pinned at 60FPS, and I can also see by the results on different benchmarks that the L40 is hugely under performing, because of the 60FPS limit.

The platform is: vSphere 8.0U1, vGPU 16.1, VMware Horizon 2306 and Windows Server 2022 (Server VDI)

The VMs have a 48Q profile allocated, have the “pciPassthru0.cfg.frame_rate_limiter = 0” setting added to the Advanced Settings, and when logged in, the VM successfully obtains a license.

The platform was working perfectly with A40 GPUs, but since upgrading to L40, we are now limited to only 60FPS. I have tried building a new VM, but the issue still remains.

If anyone is able to offer some suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
MG

Hi
Almost same config and same problem. With A40 everything was OK, but after change to L40 I’m also unable to disable frame rate limiter.

Hi JC

Thanks for adding your feedback, good to know I’m not alone with this issue.

I’ve just opened a Ticket with NVIDIA Enterprise Support, if we are able to resolve, I’ll post here with the details.

Thanks
MG

Yes, Please raise a support ticket with NVES as it looks like to be a general issue to increase the visibility…

Update: Indeed a bug we’re working on.

Thanks Simon

I’ll drop you a message on Slack …

Hi JC

The issue has been identified by NVIDIA, and it is expected to be resolved in the 16.2 release, so keep an eye out for when that drops.

Hi

For anyone else who’s experiencing the same issue, vGPU 16.2 was released on October 31st, and I can confirm that it does resolve the issue.
