Cannot use geforce driver with Linux kernel 5.8 and GTX 780Ti card

I have been successfully using the 440.100 driver with my GTX 780 Ti card and the Linux 5.7 kernel.

This driver will not compile with the Linux 5.8.4 kernel, so I downloaded and installed the 450.66 driver. However trying to start the X server gives the white Something went wrong screen.

Is it possible to use this card with Linux 5.8?

Is there a way to get useful diagnostics?

Cannot run nvidia-bug-report.sh as the system is hung (Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occurred and the system can’t recover. Please contact a system adminstrator".
I will look at setting up sshd.Done.
