Compositors in Linux locked to 60hz with 1 144hz and second 60 hz monitor

Not sure if this has been discussed on the forum, but I haven’t found anything.

Essentially, I have a 144 hz 2560x1440 monitor, and a second 1920x1080 60hz monitor. On various desktop environments: Budgie, Gnome, KDE Plasma 5, the compositor seems to be running at 60hz even on the 144hz monitor, it’s like it’s choosing the lowest common denominator.

Window dragging is at 60hz, games sometimes run at 60hz in the case of Plasma 5 if the compositor is on, and browser scrolling is noticeably sluggish on Linux versus Windows due to this refresh rate problem.

This only happens on the NVIDIA driver, the Nouveau driver does not have this problem.

Moving the mouse is obviously at 144hz, but many other things seem to be locked at 60.

I have a GTX 1070, and was using the latest driver available from the arch repositories.

Would love a temp fix, or for it to get on the radar for the dev team.

EDIT: I’ve also tried putting the 144 hz monitor at 120hz, issue persists.
