CUDA examples fail in visual studio

Hi,

After following the instructions here https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1032800/cuda-setup-and-installation/visual-studio-integration-failed- I was able to install CUDA 9.0, including Visual Studio integration, with no errors. However, when I run the suggested sample code (C:\ProgramData\NVIDIA Corporation\CUDA Samples\v9.0\5_Simulations\nbody\nbody_vs2013.sln) it fails to build.

My system is: Windows 10, Windows Visual Studio Community 2013 (this version was suggested by the developers of the software I am trying to ultimately compile), CUDA 9.0.176 (v9.0 is required by the version of Matlab I have (Matlab2018a; Matlab is also ultimately needed), although I could install a different version of Matlab and thus of CUDA if needed), NVIDIA Quadro M4000 and Quadro M2000. After installing CUDA, I made sure that all GPU drivers were up to date using this site: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=en-us I’ve done the complete uninstall and reinstall thing twice already, but have no previous experience with Visual Studio or CUDA so I’m at a loss for where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A bit of searching on MSB3721 with CUDA will indicate to you that you need to increase the VS verbosity level to get the important/actual error indication from nvcc. The MSB3721/exited with error code 1 error is not enough to diagnose anything useful.

Thanks for the reply. I increased the output verbosity to “detailed” (I tried “diagnostic” but the output was too long to successfully paste here, please let me know if there’s some way to share it if that would be informative), and now see 44 warnings in addition to the error.

The first warning is:
