CUDA on Nvidia 9 series How better is it>

Hi,

I’m currently running CUDA on a 8800 GT graphic card. I was wondering if I need to switch to the 9 series for better performance?

Can anyone tell me how the 9 series is better than the 8800 and does this carry on to CUDA as well?

The GeForce 9 cards are pretty much the same GPUs as the 8800 GT, but with more stream processors or higher clock rates. No other new features, though.

The wikipedia page has a nice summary table:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geforce_9#Tec…_Specifications

(Note that the GTX 260 and GTX 280 in that table are unreleased cards, so they don’t really count as GeForce 9.)

The 9800 GTX is the fastest single GPU, and the 9800 GX2 is two CUDA devices in one card. The 9800 GX2 card require the CUDA 2.0 beta driver, and the 9800 GTX is technically unsupported until the CUDA 2.0 final release. There have been some reports in the forum of people getting the 9800 GTX to work with the beta driver, I believe.
