DisplayPort output on TX2

Hi,

We have developed a custom board which uses the TX2, and I am trying to enable the DisplayPort output.

I found this thread which has solution for the TX1, but need similar for TX2:

Does anyone know how to properly enable DP on the TX2 ?

That was the first dts file I tried. After compiling, I copied tegra186-quill-p3310-1000-c03-00-dsi-dp.dtb to Linux_for_Tegra_tx2/bootloader/tegra186-quill-p3310-1000-c03-00-base.dtb. And then ran this command to burn it:

sudo ./flash.sh -k kernel-dtb jetson-tx2 mmcblk0p1

After rebooting, I do not see any output displayed, and the monitor doesn’t sync.
I do not see much in the log either :

You might use overwrite the wrong dtb file. Please take a look at the flash.sh.

There is a DTB field and it is using “tegra186-quill-p3310-1000-a00-00-base.dtb” in stead of the c03 one.

When I look at output of flash.sh, it appears to be using kernel/dtb/tegra186-quill-p3310-1000-c03-00-base.dtb :

Sorry that I pointed out wrong. It should not be “flash.sh” but “p2771-0000.common.conf”, is your dtb field “tegra186-quill-p3310-1000-c03-00-base.dtb”?

Here is part of p2771-0000.conf.common that you are interested in :

TBCDTB_FILE=tegra186-quill-p3310-1000-a00-00-base.dtb;

But the problem is, if I overwrite “tegra186-quill-p3310-1000-a00-00-base.dtb”, there is not any change in behavior on reboot.
If I overwrite “tegra186-quill-p3310-1000-c03-00-base.dtb”, then I do see a change in behavior.

If using custom board, please check if unnecessary regulator is blocking the display initiate procedure. Also, please make sure all pin connections and polarity are correct.

Most of case are resolved after it.

All pin connections and polarity have been checked, and are correct.

Unfortunately, I do not have any help to offer in this matter. However, I am also interested in connecting DisplayPort to the TX2. I am using the Jetson TX2 development board, and am working on a display card, which will connect to the mezzanine connector on the dev board. My design is in early stages, and we have not yet manifactured it.

Is there any chance you could share your designs re: connecting DisplayPort to the TX2? If you are interested, I can share my design (Eagle format) - but I should warn you that we have not tested our design at all.

I am attempting to get display port up and running on my board as well and have been running into a similar issue. There is something I’ve I noticed on your dmesg output:

On my board I don’t have an ‘HDMI_5V0’ regulator. In the TX2 Platform Adaptation Guide: (https://developer.nvidia.com/embedded/dlc/l4t-driver-package-tx2-adaptation-guide) It talks about configuring the first stage bootloader to not use this specific regulator.

While debugging my board I went through my dmesg and I saw the same messages you saw and then I found the reference within the kernel source code where this message is generated.

There is a comment by a developer that is relevant:

Unfortunately the code immediately following this comment will make the function ‘dc_dp_out_hotplug_init’ return an error. I haven’t tracked down the entire dc probe function but it might be that if this function returns an error then the entire display controller will fail. It looks like that is what you’re running into.

This would make sense as to why WayneWWW got his working an you haven’t gotten your’s to work. WayneWWW might have the ‘vdd_hdmi_5v0’ regulator on his board and you may not.

As a solution you can get rid of the dependency on this code by commenting out the lines after that function to right before the ‘fail’ label:

I still haven’t gotten mine to work yet but I’m running into an issue regarding the state machine of the hotplug detect, specifically I see this in my dmesg:

I’m running into a strange issue. It seems as though Hotplug Detect signal is not being detected in the kernel.

If I interrupt the bootloader and call ‘gpio status -a’ I get a dump of all GPIOs and when I look at Port P1 I can tell when hotplug detect goes high and low but if I let the kernel boot up then navigate to /sys/kernel/debug/tegra_dp1 as root and cat ‘hotplug’ I don’t see a change when the cable is plugged in.

Besides this it seems as though nvdisplay still attempts to probe the display port using the AUX channel

This is interesting, so even if the HPD is not detected the Display Port attempts to initialize a connection. If this is the case then there might be something wrong with my hardware. Can someone confirm that this is what it’s doing and I’m misinterpreting it?

Will there be any conflict with the I2C associated with the HDMI on DP1? do I need to disable an I2C port somewhere if I want to use DPAUX signals for display port? Or because I selected DisplayPort will the I2C for HDMI already be disabled?

It was a little tricky to understand how everything worked together but I spent some time with the TRM and made this graphic. Maybe it will help someone else out.
