Error Code 43 After Inplace Upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 on VM with NVIDIA vGPU

Hello NVIDIA community,

We are currently using NVIDIA vGPU technology in our VDI solution and are experiencing an issue after performing an inplace upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

Issue Description:
After upgrading a virtual machine (VM) from Windows 10 to Windows 11, the NVIDIA GPU in the VM is not working properly and displays “Error Code 43” in the Device Manager. This problem does not occur when we set up a VM with a fresh installation of Windows 11 using the exact same configuration.

Environment Details:

  • NVIDIA vGPU version: 550.127.06
  • Hypervisor: Proxmox 8.3.0 (Kernel 6.8.12-2-pve)
  • Guest OS: Windows 11 (after inplace upgrade from Windows 10)
  • GPU hardware: RTX 8000
  • Driver version: 553.24

Steps Tried So Far:

  1. Verified that the vGPU profiles are properly configured.
  2. Reinstalled the NVIDIA vGPU drivers in the VM after the upgrade.
  3. Checked for any BIOS or hypervisor updates.
  4. Complete uninstallation using DDU and reinstallation

Observation:
The issue seems to be specific to the inplace upgrade process, as fresh installations of Windows 11 do not exhibit the same behavior.

We would greatly appreciate any insights, suggestions, or troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue. Has anyone else experienced similar problems with inplace upgrades to Windows 11 on VMs using NVIDIA vGPU?

Thank you for your help!
