Hardware acceleration support for Chromium?

A similar question has been asked about this in regards to the interface for ibtegrav4l2.so (https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1048992/jetson-tx2/hardware-accelerated-video-playback-in-chromium-/post/5323786/#5323786) but the answer wasn’t fully explained.

Does the nano support VA API for offloading decoding to the GPU for chromium? This in theory would be implemented through VDPAU.

Thank you in advance!

Hi,
We are checking to support this. For clarification, video decoding will be offloaded to NVDEC, not GPU.

Thank you DaneLLL, I am looking forward to any results you find.

I may have missed it, but did anyone find a way to make this work?

Nope. Long story short, the hw acceleration is only available for nvidia’s video player(can’t remember the name off the top of my head) and not for web browsers. I’ve heard the new version of the nano does support this however.
