hm, maybe try to re-install the xserver-xorg-input-libinput package (maybe the hwe version, don’t know now what you have installed).
That did not mean to delete all the files there. Only those who would interfere with the graphic config.
I have them backed up but in a different location but what should I do now ? will logging in safe mode will work?
Yeah sure, log in in rescue mode and copy them back.
I’m on Ubuntu 18, I have: 10-quirks.conf, 40-libinput.conf, 70-wacom.conf, similar stuff should be there for you.
