Incompatibility of current Quadro/GeForce drivers and Microsoft support technologies

Hi support.

I am a windows network admin. In our network, the usual constellation was: Windows 10 plus nvidia GeForce or RTX graphics. We admins use RDP shadowing for in-session end user support, which works very well. After upgrading to Windows 11 however, all we get to see when we try to give support and therefore rdp-shadow a user, is a black screen with a (moving) mouse cursor. This happens on all machines, even clean installations, however, it only happens, if the remote user himself is remoting into his office machine from his home.

After investigating, I found out that I can solve this by disabling the following (group policy based) setting: Use hardware graphics adapters for all Remote Desktop Services sessions which effectively forces all Remote Desktop Services sessions to use the Microsoft Basic Render Driver as the default adapter and NOT the hardware adapter.

Now as you can imagine, this workaround had severe performance implications for our CAD workstations. Rendering slows down a lot (sometimes by factor 20) and our workers would like to render even when controlling their office machine from remote (in their home office)

What I would like you to do (since I don’t expect Microsoft to do anything about it):
->please reproduce this and see whether you can change this behavior through your driver.

I am confident that you can, since…
A it works alright on windows 10
B it works on Windows 11 with different cards (Intel Iris onboard graphics and even “small” Geforce cards that use the older driver branch like for example the GT 730)

Please feel free to reach out for details (although I think I provided all that you need).
The OS and drivers are all up2date as of today (Win11 23H2 and geforce gameready driver 555.99), affected cards are for example RTX 2080 TI, RTX 4070 or RTX A4000.
