Increasing how much video memory is allocated per VM

Hi,

I was wondering if there was a way to allocate more memory from the NVidia card to a VM using vSGA? Maybe change the ratio so that it’s 1:1 vm video memory to card memory (instead of 2:1)?

Thanks,
Matt

Currently the pool limits the amount of frame buffer to a max of 512MB, half of which comes from the GPU, the other half from the CPU. Part of the benefit from which is you retain the ability to vMotion. With VMware’s announcement of vGPU in the near future I am not sure what the plan is from VMware regarding different FB memory amounts.

At this point it is unlikely that there will be a significant increase in the amount of memory that we allocate to a vSGA session. The limitations we have in terms of OpenGL and DirectX make it so that having a larger memory space will mostly be a waste for the typical use cases for vSGA.

vGPU will solve this problem and allow you to assign bigger slices to individual VMs.
