Linux new kernel 6.5.0-14(ubuntu 22.04) can not compile NVIDIA display card driver

For 390.xx, use my PPA: nvidiaexp : Daniel Letzeisen
It is patched for kernel 6.8.

Yes, it would be very nice if Ubuntu applied these simple patches, but they don’t care. They knew this problem would eventually occur on LTS kernels with Ubuntu 22.04 and said as much, but as long as 390 works with with the original 22.04 kernel (5.15.x), they think that is good enough. I just wish they had made that decision before they started patching 390 for earlier LTS kernels (5.19, 6.2). Talk about inconsistency…

I have the 6.5.0-0.deb12.4-amd64 kernel. I’d like to install the MeowIce patched 340.108 NVidia driver from nvidia-legacy - Browse /340.108/6.5 at SourceForge.net

I did

apt install linux-headers-6.5.0-0.deb12.4-amd64 linux-source-6.5 build-essential libglvnd-dev pkg-config gcc make -y

I ran the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-340.108-patched-kernel-6.5.run script.

The build failed. /var/log/nvidia-installer.log says it can’t find stdarg.h

But /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/12/include/stdarg.h exists

What have I done wrong?

Hi Daniel.

I signed-up for this forum just to thank you for this post. I installed your PPA and patched 390 driver, and for the first time in months my Ubuntu 22.04 is working without having to go back to the old kernel on boot.

Thank you so very, very much!

Best regards
Nick Roberts

Thank you Peshkopy,

I have integrated these commands into n installer script. If you would like credit, please advise how you would like to be credited.

Hi Cjac,

Thank you for your message. I appreciate your offer, but I do not wish to be credited. I’m glad the commands were helpful!

Installing 418 for my 390 on my macbook pro worked great!
