New to infiniband, can't get a working connection.

Oh brother, here is the status.

  1. I finally got PO’d enought to get another IB switch, a flextronics 8 port. THIS one gives me link lights…so that’s one issue gone.

  2. My replacement connectx card gets no linklight in a vmware server, but does get a linklight under a linux machine, but it doesn’t find the subnet manager that the other machines find.

  3. I cannot get ibping to work at all, cannot ping any GUIDS

  4. I would like to update switch but mst status doesn’t see it, but ibswitches does, so I can’t update it through the infiniband fabric.

  5. Cannot make any headway with windows IPoIB…(I know you don’t know windows)

  6. How do I map drives?

with all your issues we need to start sort; get the basics working first and move forward with the others.

you need to start with:

A) Get physical links working (green LED)

B) Get a subnet manager going and make sure logical links are also working (amber LED)

C) upgrade all components firmwares to the latest possible (switches and HCAs)

once those done, then move to other thiings (protocols, ibping, vmware, your app, etc)

BTW, Windows2012 server should be the first Windows to come with an “inbox” driver (yes, it is part of the OS distribution). the link above should be a newer version though.
