I have problem with installing nsight. I have installed cuda (I needed to unselect VS integration, otherwise it fails). Separate install also does not work - “NVIDIA Nsight Visual Studio Edition 6.0.0.18296 Setup Wizard ended prematurely” says installer and does not give more hints except of “because of an error”. I have also older VS installed (VS 2008). Any idea how to fix or get more information about the problem? Windows 10, GT 710.
I think the issue here is the VS2008.
Both CUDA 10.0 and NsightVSE 6.0 only support
- Visual Studio 2017 Community Edition, Professional Edition, Enterprise Edition
- Visual Studio 2015 Community Edition, Professional Edition or better
- Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition, Professional Edition or better
- Visual Studio 2012 Professional Edition or better[
See “Visual Studio Requirements” on https://developer.nvidia.com/nsight-visual-studio-edition-requirements
Also, I believe Microsoft is deprecating support for everything before VS2015 in Jan 2019. Time to upgrade?
Your only other option is to go back to a CUDA toolkit and Nsight that support VS2008…but that was way back in June 2014 Gameworks Download Center | NVIDIA Developer. No promises about this version working on modern hardware and OSs.
Thank you. I have the problem with both VS 2017 (15.9) and VS 2008 installed (which I mentioned in the case when having multiple instances of VS may cause any trouble). I thought that maybe 2017 15.9 is to new for Nsight.
FWIW, I was able to install NVIDIA Nsight Visual Studio Edition 6.0.0.18296 on my system with VS2017(v15.9.3), VS2015, and VS2013, but I don’t have VS2008 readily available.
I’ll ask our QA group to investigate (DTCOMP-2632).
Can you supply more information about your system configuration (OS version, display driver, other GPUs)?
I should also note that GT710 isn’t a supported GPU (see https://developer.nvidia.com/nsight-visual-studio-edition-supported-gpus-full-list), but that shouldn’t be causing an installation issue. This will only be an issue if you try to debug on this GPU. While we support debugging on ‘supported’ single GPUs, I have a GT710 in my system as a display device while I debug on other supported GPUs.
We installed NVIDIA Nsight Visual Studio Edition 6.0.0.18296 on a system with VS2008 and VS2017(15.9.1) without any issues.
Note that installing the ‘VS2017 Build Tools’ does cause installation problems prior to v6.0.0.18296.
However, this is the build you mentioned, so this should not be the source of your problems.
Just curious, how many instances of VS2017 are detected by the installer (listed on the Install Summary page during installation)?
Thank you, I can see only the information that “Setup Wizard ended prematurely”
(i.e. this nsight.jpg - Google Drive )
nothing about VS2017 instances
Please uninstall Nsight Visual Studio Edition (using win10’s Settings > ‘Add or Remove Programs’), then download and install https://developer.nvidia.com/gameworksdownload#?dn=nsight-visual-studio-edition-2019-1
