I have a relatively recent ASUS laptop, which I’ve updated the firmware on recently. Both the integrated and discrete GPUs work fine in windows - in Linux, the Nvidia GPU does not seem functional at all. It works fine in Windows (the machine is dual-booted), and the card shows up via lspci etc. The kernel is the one that comes from Ubuntu, and I’ve tried multiple drivers from the graphics PPA (560, 565, 570, the open variations of each) with no success.
nvidia-smi -a just gives back
NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn’t communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.
