NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB supported? as assembled in the new MacBook Pros

Hi,

I only found information stating that the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256MB should be used instead of the 128MB version and I am assuming that 512MB are also supported, just want to be sure.

This is no official confirmation, but AFAIK the 128MB “works”, only it sometimes runs out of memory. The 512MB should work, and not run out of memory. Alternative memory sizes shouldn’t affect things. But as I say - this is only a guess, and I know you’re looking for an official yes.

Thank you for the answer kristleufur! As I bought the MBP I will test it myself and report afterwards. Nevertheless it’s a pity that no official answered to the question …

Until now everythink works like a charm.

Congratulations on the new machine, and thanks for reporting.

i have also the card.

when i install osx 10.5.5 with all the extra drivers (customise)

then the screen turns into black when loading the driver (i assume)

how can i start in default vga mode’ to install this driver?
