I put in my reservation very late (a month ago) because I thought I had to pay up front and secured the funds first, and finally decided to check on the status a couple times this week. I wasn’t going to even waste time looking at it again for a while since I’m already shipping projects with my 4090, but then I get an email with the subject “Your DGX Spark Reservation” this morning and it got my hopes up that maybe there was a change. I was of course disappointed that it was just an invite to the DGX Spark forum and a reminder that I’ve got money set aside for a product that is losing value by the day. The potential of a forum of other like-minded engineers piqued my interest enough to fill out a profile and sign up, but after reading the forums for a minute I am at a loss for why they would even be sending invites to this.
How could it make any kind of business sense to invite people who already have money burning in their pockets and plummeting 401Ks to a forum where the only activity is people pointing out the lack of information and diminishing value of your product they’re waiting for?
I can laugh at myself and appreciate being trolled, but it’s tough this time as a customer and a shareholder.
Did you put the hold money into investment or a box?
You signed up early adopter right?
I if your place in line s before me can we trade? I’m using it for municipal government bloat reduction I prototyped last year. I was invited and comped by nsf and DoD.
Just because it isn’t your use case why blame Nvidia for not knowing this way back? I’m confused. Can I have yours? It’ll be for first responder
First, please accept my apologies that my intended tone on the original post was lost and it seems like it may have come across as actual complaining or crap-posting. I have been using Nvidia cards exclusively since the last century and actually am a pretty happy shareholder for the last several years as well.
The story in the post is true, I literally laughed out loud when I optimistically joined the forum and then saw that literally the only activity I saw was people complaining about a lack of updates and hopes that there will be adjustments to the hardware or pricing. My goal in the original post was actually to share the genuine humor I saw in the situation.
I am curious to see what’s eventually said regarding pricing and hardware, but it was laughable to me that the first communication that I noticed from Nvidia regarding the reservation since deciding to check on the reservation landed me on a forum that looked like it may as well have been set up to troll people with reservations and inspire buyer’s remorse.
I’m currently still planning to claim my reservation when I’m able, and only mentioned that I’m happily busy with my current card in an attempt to make it clear that I’m NOT one of the users trying to rush answers or delivery. It’s the same reason I included the mention of my late reservation because of my own error in understanding the way reservations were set up.
Sorry again for the confusion and both of these posts being way longer than they probably needed to be. Have a great weekend!
I was a day one reserve and just cancelled so everyone goes up a notch. There will be a decent amount of other people cancel so you shouldn’t have to try to trade. I am still interested what the Spark will be but I feel the price is just over the moon compared to what I can get now for half. If I outgrown what I am getting next month I will surely come back and see what the Spark is up to but that should be over a year at least.
Can you be more specific as to what you can get for half the price that actually compares?
I’m being serious.
Depends on your use case. For me, getting a Corsair Workstation 300 is plenty good. It is still early to get good support for Rocm since everything is used to coding and running on CUDA. But the performance is very good when you get it going.
