Booted into safe mode to run DDU, then ran clean install of latest Nvidia drivers but no luck, still getting app error due to module nvoglv32.dll. When I disable the Nvidia adapter via devmgmt.msc, then these programs run without issue.

kenneth.gant, Thanks for reporting this. Is this still reproducing on latest web driver? See 552.44 from

Wen, I am having a similar issue as Kenneth. Mine device has an NVIDIA 1050 Ti Max-Q laptop GPU. Is this a Ti-related issue?

As troubleshooting steps, I did a complete uninstall of the device driver (from the Windows 10 Device Manager), including file deletion; then I re-installed the latest driver (552.44, reported in Windows as 31.0.15.5244) through GeForce Experience as a clean installation. The problem still persists: particular programs such as Mendeley Desktop will ‘launch’ but only show the loading icon on the cursor; after a few seconds the program disappears from the list of open processes.

The Windows event manager points to nvoglv32.dll as the culprit.

Do you have any suggestions for how to fix or avoid this?

We have an internal bug tracking this issue now. It is hard to confirm we are fixing the same issue without the repro steps. Could you share the crash dump from MendeleyDesktop.exe?

I would love to, but I might need some help with that. Mendeley Desktop unfortunately doesn’t seem to generate crash dumps (at least not during this particular crash). Would you know where I can find those? I tried producing a verbose crash log as per (https://service.elsevier.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/19595/p/10524/supporthub/mendeley/) but it seems that the program crashes even before this log is produced.
Is there a program that you know of that relies on nvoglv32.dll and has detailed crash dumps? I can install it and give it a try.

I am not familiar with Mendeley Desktop. I was referring to Windows user mode crash dumps from Microsoft documentation. It does not depend on the application or specific DLL.

Thank you Wen_Su, I was unfamiliar with that feature. I have created a dump file. Unfortunately it is in the wrong file format to upload here: I have uploaded it to WeTransfer. You can access the link here: WeTransfer - Send Large Files & Share Photos Online - Up to 2GB Free . Please let me know if I can provide any other material.

Thank you for the crash dump. WeTransfer - Send Large Files & Share Photos Online - Up to 2GB Free
I have reviewed the dump. The crash signature matches our driver team setup with another internal application. This confirms the bug is similar. We will deliver the bug fix with in our next driver release.

Great, glad the issue was already on your radar from another bug. Out of curiosity: driver version 555.85 was just released today. Is the bug fix included in that release? I did a clean install and tested the software again: the crash still occured. Please let me know if you’d like me to upload another crash dump.

555.85 does not have the fix.

Hi Socrates,

The OpenGL driver optimizes the modules loaded by the current process. Some application DLLs provide invalid data that can lead to crashes. We hardened the NVIDIA OpenGL driver to detect this and ignore ill-behaving DLLs.

Our internal fix is under verification. It should be available soon in the upcoming driver release. Thanks for your report.

We also hope to root cause which application/dlls cause the unexpected behavior when interacting with OpenGL driver. Are you running any Anti-Malware or Falcon software (e.g. CrowdStrike Falcon) with MendeleyDesktop?

Understood, will install the next driver release.

Thank you for the update qgu, sorry I didn’t see your post. Yes, I’m running this program on an enterprise device that’s being managed with/protected by Crowdstrike Falcon, Citrix Workspace, BigFix, and probably some additional services that I’m unaware of.

Hi Richard,

If you still have the repro, please post more details (application, GPU, OS, running with Crowdstrike?) with a crash dump so we can inspect if it’s the same issue.
