Our custom DRAM chip not working.

Hi,guys.

We are using JTX1 for our products.
We need to change 8Gb DRAM to our custom 6Gb DRAM chip.

I follow below link.(for Tegra TK1)
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/903645/4gb-sdram-custom-board-use-micron-m741k512m16ha-chip-not-working/

1.I changed BCT file.
P2180_A00_LP4_DSC_204Mhz.cfg
SDRAM[0].McEmemCfg = 0x00001000; //4GB
to
SDRAM[0].McEmemCfg = 0x00000800; //2GB

2.I changed kernel boot parameters.
ddr_die=1024M@1024M ddr_die=1024M@1024M

3.I disabled DVFS and recompile the kernel.
CONFIG_PM_DEVFREQ=n
TEGRA_EMC_SCALING_ENABLE=n
TEGRA_CPU_DVFS=n
TEGRA_GPU_DVFS=n
CONFIG_TEGRA_DVFS_RAIL_CONNECT_ALL=n

But our jetson won’t boot up.
Our custom 8Gb DRAM is working.

Does anyone else have good idea?Does JTX support to change memory size? 4GB only?

Which memory part are you using for 6Gb ?
Here is the change list for 4GB CFG to 3GB.

3GB
SDRAM[0].McEmemAdrCfgDev0 = 0x000d0302;
SDRAM[0].McEmemAdrCfgDev1 = 0x000d0302;
SDRAM[0].McEmemCfg = 0x00000c00;

4GB
SDRAM[0].McEmemAdrCfgDev0 = 0x00070302;
SDRAM[0].McEmemAdrCfgDev1 = 0x00070302;
SDRAM[0].McEmemCfg = 0x00001000;

For kernel boot parameters:

3GB
ddr_die=1536M@2048M ddr_die=1536M@3584M

4GB
ddr_die=2048M@2048M ddr_die=2048M@4096M

Thank you edli1983.

Sorry, I made mistake, 3GB is correct.

I tried the settings you told me.

3GB
SDRAM[0].McEmemAdrCfgDev0 = 0x000d0302;
SDRAM[0].McEmemAdrCfgDev1 = 0x000d0302;
SDRAM[0].McEmemCfg = 0x00000c00;

3GB
ddr_die=1536M@2048M ddr_die=1536M@3584M

and I got below error during TegraBoot.

Regards,

The error should not be related to the changes. Would you please double check your software setup.
Do you have an available 4GB memory JTX1 to verify the changes and image?

Yes, Our JTX is modified with HSIO Grypper socket.
I can swap DRAM chips easily.

I’ve followed L4TDocs.
After I edited P2180_A00_LP4_DSC_204Mhz.cfg and extlinux.conf,
I always run the command
$sudo ./flash.sh jetson-tx1 mmcblk0p1

Another 8Gb(512Mx32 Dual Die 4GB) chips are working with 3GB settings.
I confirmed memory capacity is limited to 3GB correctly on L4T R23.2.

But when I swapped with 6Gb(384Mx32 Dual Die 3GB) chips,
JTX is always stopped at “Bpmp Firmware magic ID mismatch”.

Regards,
majin216

We also have 6Gb Quad Die samples and I swapped.
I tried below settings and JTX booted up.

SDRAM[0].McEmemAdrCfgDev0 = 0x000c0302;
SDRAM[0].McEmemAdrCfgDev1 = 0x000c0302;
SDRAM[0].McEmemCfg = 0x00001800;

ddr_die=3072M@3072M ddr_die=3072M@6144M

Would you please provide the exactly memory part number you tried ? Thanks

OK.

Here are the lists I tried

Part Number FBGA Code NumOfDie Density ToalMem

Regards,
majin216

I’m continueing to solve this issue.

I found that our chip has CS0 only. (not 2rank device.)

I changed MC_EMEM_ADR_CFG_0 to 0=N1.

Here is the log.

It looks all EMC training failed, but I think that’s strange.
I’d like to know appropriate settings for 1CS(1rank) chip,please.

Regards,
majin216

Finally, I succeeded to boot up my jetson with 3GB DRAM chip.

I had misunderstanding.
Indeed, our chip is dual die chip.
But our chip has single rank, 1CS.

So, I changed BCT settings below

SDRAM[0].EmcAdrCfg                                = 0x00000000;
SDRAM[0].McEmemAdrCfg                             = 0x00000000;
SDRAM[0].McEmemAdrCfgDev0                         = 0x000c0302;
SDRAM[0].McEmemAdrCfgDev1                         = 0x000c0302;
SDRAM[0].McEmemCfg                                = 0x00000c00;

Thank you and sorry my english is very cheap.

Are you from Micron supplier ? Samsung and Hynix also have LPDDR4 memory could work on JTX1.
