Pageflip timed out! This is a bug in the nvidia-drm kernel driver

GPU: 2080 SUPER w/ Max-Q

Kernel: 7.2.0-rc3-1-cachyos-rc (happens on LTS as well)

KWin: 6.7.3

Driver: 610.43.03-1

Whenever I get into a state where KDE Plasma on Wayland is plugged in to my external monitor (over Thunderbolt/DP Alt-mode) my machine freezes entirely, i.e. I can’t even switch TTYs and have to hard restart the thing. This happens both when I start Plasma with the monitor plugged in, or if I plug it in after starting it with only my laptop display (which is, on its own, successful.) Other sessions, namely GNOME, Hyprland and Plasma X11, work completely fine, it’s only Plasma Wayland.

I have tried removing kwinrc and setting NVreg_EnableGpuFirmware=0 (although this is seemingly no longer possible, as it just sticks to 18 at runtime). This has been happening to me for months now.

I ended up fixing this by simply deleting the file ~/.config/kwinoutputconfig.json and allowing KDE to recreate it on the next boot; I had many stale entries in there, so the error might’ve had something to do with that. Just in case it is still a bug for NVIDIA to handle, I’ve attached the contents of the kwinoutputconfig.json that killed the session:
