Problem with a carrier board that does restart instead of shutdown

Hi there,

I have an headless Aerium carrier board that does restart instead of shutting down, for an example after issuing this:
sudo shutdown now

This has happened to me on JP 6.2 and also JP 5.1.4

I have looked into WOL and other things that can cause this, but still not luck.
It happens even if there is no LAN cable connected, the only cable that is connected is the OTG 192.168.55.1 USB cable that allows me to connect to the board since it is headless…

Does anyone seend this kind of a phenomena ?

Thanks,

Hi,

Basically we don’t check the issue from another 3rd party carrier board. On NV devkit, we don’t see such issue.
Please report your issue to the board vendor.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply, i talked to the vendor he told me that he can not help me.

Maybe you can answer a related question that will diffuse the worries that i have about the board not being able to shutdown …

Shutting down the board by cutting off his power supply without any special logic that will warn the operation system about doing so, is this something that can harm the board or cause the software that runs on it to malfunction ?

Can i use this kind of approach without getting into trouble ? Would you recommend this kind of a solution ?
Or any other solution that you can think of ?

Thanks,

Hi,

I think you may clarify what is the exact error first.

Are you talking about that you cannot use software command (e.g. sudo shutdown) to power down the board? And it will give you a system reboot?

Which jetpack release is in use?

Exactly,
When i issue all of the variants of a shutdown through the USB OTG console like:
sudo shutdown now
sudo shutdown --poweroff
And others, the board doesn’t shutdown, it reboots …

This happens in JP 6.2 and also JP 5.1.4 i have tried them both.
It is a headless carrier board.
No Ethernet is connected or WIFI.
The only cable is a type C 192.168.55.1 console

Please share the serial console log with this method. It will print more logs than syslog.

Is this method applicable to Orin NX also ?

Yes. This is a very common method to dump the real helpful log.
