Hi, we are developing a multicam application for AGX Xavier & AGX Xavier industrial. In the Jetson_AGX_Xavier_Series_OEM_Product_Design_Guide_DG-09840-001_v2.3 section 15.5 “Safety MCU JAXi Only”, the safety MCU is mentioned but no details about what it does actually.
We would like to know more details of this safety MCU.
What is the purpose of this safety MCU?
Is it a big deal to add it? or what situation should we need to add this safety MCU?
It depends on your design request. If you want to add safety MCU, you can find the relevant IO supported in guide. You can get more info in this site of JSEP: Jetson Safety Extension | NVIDIA Developer
I have read the JSEP brief introduction. And it seems that it is mainly for safety standard compliance achievement. The Jenson Safety Extension page mentions about IEC 61508, ISO 13849 and ISO 26262.
So can I put it in this way that:
If we would address the IEC 61508, ISO 13849 or ISO 26262, then a safety MCU needs to be added. And we can make use of the JSEP to achieve the requirements of such safety standard compliance.
In other words, we don’t need to add safety MCU if we don’t need to implement safety functions or achieving functional safety standard compliance.
