Hardware: RTX 5090 32GB, RTX PRO 6000 96GB (both Blackwell) OS: Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS Kernel: 6.14.0-29-generic Driver: 580.82.07-0ubuntu1 (open kernel modules)
Issue: Any Chromium-based application instantly crashes my RDP session when launched. This started happening after upgrading from RTX 3090 to RTX 5090, first noticed with beta driver 580.65.06.
What crashes RDP:
-
Chrome browser
-
VS Code
-
Discord
-
Any Electron app
What works fine:
-
Firefox browser
-
Terminal apps
-
Non-Chromium GUI apps
-
Everything works normally via SSH or local console
Steps to reproduce:
-
Connect via RDP to Ubuntu system with RTX 5090/PRO 6000
-
Launch Chrome or VS Code
-
RDP session immediately terminates
Notes:
-
Worked perfectly with RTX 3090 on same system
-
Problem persists across multiple 580.x driver versions
-
Even launching with
--disable-gpu
flags crashes RDP -
Firefox works fine, confirming this is Chromium-specific
This makes remote development essentially impossible since most modern tools use Chromium. Is this a known issue with Blackwell cards? Any workarounds besides switching to Firefox?
I can provide additional logs/debugging info if needed.
