Everything works fine with 4090 + Ubuntu 24.04 (windows 11 also fine)
Everything works fine with 5090 + win11 (driver 572)
5090 + 570.86.16 + Ubuntu 24.04 (same with live CD) go directly to black screen after Grub.
Fans go to max speed immediately sometimes Logo LED turns off.
MB is ROG Strix 570f but if MB was the issue it would not work on win11.
ideas?
Just brainstorming:
do you have a CPU with an integrated AMD iGPU and if so is it enabled or disabled?
If it’s enabled maybe the default output goes there on linux?
It it’s disabled, then maybe you could enable it, uninstall nvidia drivers completely, boot with output going to iGPU, then install nvidia drivers and load nvidia kernel module so you would be at least able to see system logs and run nvidia-bug-report.sh
no, I got a ryzen 9 5900X no igou, no video card on mother board. so it just does not boot with the 5090. btw it does it does not boot when I put both a 3090 and a 5090.
the fact that my system does not even boot on live cd suggests that it is not a driver issue, the trouble comes before that.
maybe nouveau is crashing…
Does Ubuntu liveCD still have safe graphics mode? if so try using this, if not try some other less-windows-like distro (Debian installer for sure has safe graphics mode: you can try “testing” image from here: Index of /cdimage/weekly-builds/amd64/iso-dvd ).
reflashed bios, removed all cards, reboot with card => all config gone.
put back 5090, boot, it works, just crazy. then re-install nvidia drivers, all set.

Hello vnguyen7
I am encountering similar issues as you are. What do you mean you removed all cards, did you phisically unplugg the RTX? Can you elaborate on how you fixed it, that would be very helpfull!
Thanks a lot!
yes I physically removed all cards and booted with no card (which was an issue for since I had no other video card to supervise) but at least I think it forced the system to reset somehow its config.
intresting, thanks for the input!
