small fraction of cores available for geforce 470

I purchased a geforce 470 which is supposed to have 448 cuda cores. When I run the device queuery example from the SDK it shows I only have 112 cores. A lot of the SDK examples will not run as it give the infamous “failure to launch” error.

Any help would be appreciated
