Tiled flicker on RTX50 series

Hello there,

We got reports of flicker in our game released years ago, using custom Unity 2018.4 and D3D11 rendering API, when playing on an RTX50 series GPU.

I have RTX5070Ti and can reproduce it even in the editor or its GPU capture as I’m showing in this video.

RenderDoc GPU capture download.

Could it be a driver issue or something on our side?

Regards,
Tomas

Hi @WoodyPWX, nice to see you again.

I will ask our D3D team if they have some insight.

Thanks!

BTW, is this happening only on RTX 50 series or on others as well?
And what is the game title if I may ask?

Only on RTX50 series and it’s Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Thanks!

Love that game!

More reason to fix it.

Do you have a driver “threshold” with respect to the last working driver version where no flicker was observed?

I don’t think we have one, but the oldest driver I can find on nvidia.com is 576.80 from Tue Jun 17, 2025 and it’s having that issue:

btw, in order to make the flicker much more visible, you can set Resolution Scale to the lowest value:

Are we getting a solution to this. Because Ori is becoming unplayable. And I’m facing this exact issue.

Welcome @rajabalmain to the NVIDIA developer forums.

There has been direct communication between our Engineers and Moon Studios, the issue is being worked on.

Thanks!

Hello. Any updates on this? It’s affecting a lot of players and quite a few people are complaining. It’s sad a game this beautiful has to suffer from this issue. And also people seem to be blaming Moon Studios for this issue when it’s not their fault 😢

I’m testing every new drivers with my RTX5070Ti. Currently I have 610.62, but it’s the same glitching:

the fans took care of the issue for nvidia and moon studios, take a look at this steam thread.

I’m aware of this fix, but it’s not ideal and NVIDIA should fix it once and for all :/

Hello @MarkusHoHo. Any updates on this?

Ori WOTW is now on sale and a lot of players are playing it for the first time. It would be a shame for a lot of people to not be able to enjoy the game properly (or at all) because of this, so it would be awesome if it could be prioritized a bit, it’s been almost a year and it seems like no progress has been made.

Thanks.

Hi @MarkusHoHo
I was investigating the glitching again. One problem is the way we are clearing B channel of a render texture at some point in the pipeline. RTX 50 series is ignoring the write mask, clearing all channels. I can workaround that:

and inject the fixed shader to the resources.asset we are distributing with the game. It fixes the holes in the objects I was showing before. Sadly, it’s not enough. There is still a tile sized flicker on edges of objects and the lower the resolution of the rendered slices, the worse.
Please check this new youtube capture:

I can’t capture this issue in any GPU capture I tried (RenderDoc, PIX)
Is there any chance somebody from NVIDIA will look into this?

Hei @WoodyPWX,

I gave the people on the bug a nudge, but I am not in the loop regarding prioritization or similar I am afraid.

Hi Markus,
do you know if anyone looked into the issue?

Yep, there is activity. Can’t share what though. if they need more data, they will reach out to you.
