Could someone give me some hints as to what i’m doing wrong?

I’ve also tested other resolutions such as: 1920x1088, 1280x720, 480x272 and i’m achieving simmilar results to this.

I was able to train an ssd model using the same dataset and i achieved 95% accuracy there? Any idea why?

Yes, smaller size, less grids(for your case, 480/16 * 272/16) for training. If 480x272 is not a must, you can try bigger size. More, how about the average character size inside the images?
