Ok, investigation done, Ubuntu 19.04 has kernel 5.0 per default. The 4.18 kernel must be a left-over from 18.04, there’s probably just the grub config messed up. After turning on your computer, hold down shift to get to the grub menu, then look for an entry with the 5.0 kernel and boot that.

You have a AMD/Nvidia hybrid combo with the nvidia gpu in offload mode. External monitors in that case is a WIP (don’t know its current state, though) and currently doesn’t work. If nothing is working for you just go to the BIOS settings and disable secure boot I can’t believe it that it work I have tried all the above method install nvidia graphics and all that stuff. But none of them worked just disable the secure boot and it will work fine.

I have the same issue. I’ve read tons of posts and tried tons of suggested fixed and nothing works. I’m running Ubuntu 20.10 and it recognizes my second monitor, it just won’t use it. I would really appreciate any help.
