AGX Orin fails to detect any USB devices (even USB hubs)

I tried powering my AGX directly with a 3S Li battery yesterday, because the original power wasn’t enough. It worked fine at first, but after one reboot, it couldn’t detect any USB devices. I could still use USB keyboar in BIOS and re-flash it via SDK Manager, but even after re-flashing, no USB devices show up. Could this be because I hooked up the battery without a voltage regulator? What should I do?

Were this device able to detect USB before you tried that battery?

Before using the battery, everything worked fine. I even successfully tested it multiple times with the battery before the USB detection failure occurred.​​

Here’s what I think happened:

I directly hooked up a ​​3S lithium battery to the dcin port​​ (I know its a dumb idea—I just didn’t realize howdumb). The ​​electrical noise​​ (like voltage surges) from the battery messed with the circuitry. The main board and dc port have decent isolation, so most components survived. But ​​type-c ports can also act as power inputs​​, so their isolation from dcin isn’t as robust. That’s probably why they fried (maybe other components too). In ​​Jetppack 6​​, the ​​device tree​​ seems to tie the whole usb hub to the type-c ports. So if type-c is dead, the entire usb hub fails to mount. With ​​Jetpack 5​​, at least the ​​type-a ports still work​​.

I think i need RMA and add proper ​​isolation between the battery and Jetson to avoid this.

Not sure if RMA would be supported in this case, as damage due to use case factors which are beyond our recommendations and outside our control.

Flashing is in recovery mode and kind of device mode only and does not need VBUS. Connecting USB devices will be Host mode and does need VBUS to be available. Most likely the Power Delivery (PD) path components are damaged. You can debug and probably fix it using the carrier board design files available in the Jetson Download Center.
