Also getting this issue. This is the only bug report I’ve been able to find on Google with the same symptoms as myself, including the approximate timeframe. Currently have a 4060 GPU but same thing happened with a 3060, and I also have two monitors. System is up to date as of yesterday. Running X11; Wayland has too many issues for me to switch to ATM.
In my experience 9 times out of 10 the black screen is permanent (even waiting for a couple of hours), and the only hope to get passed it is to switch to another TTY, kill plasmashell (which as stated has pegged the CPU) and jump back and hope Plasma restarts automatically (which it doesn’t always do). Occasionally as OP mentioned waiting a bit does bring back the screen but even then Plasma is frozen (other apps continue to work) and it still requires being killed and restarted.
