Black sceen with cursor instead of login window - sddm crashing due to graphics driver bug

After updating my laptop to KDE Plasma 6.5.1 I had a crash in sddm, preventing me from logging in. It resulted in a black sceen with a cursor. The backtrace indicates a GPU driver problem.
(handleContextCreationFailure is always GPU related from what I’m told)

I had found this forum thread, with a similar backtrace, but that was in an older driver and that bug should be fixed. Also, I hadn’t seen this before today.

NVIDIA driver version 570.190

I tried the beta driver (580.95.05), as well as the developer driver (580.94.03). Those caused a crash as well with the same backtrace.

I’m attaching the nvidia-bug-report.log.gz as well as the backtrace (from 570.190). Let me know if there’s anything else that might help. I’m happy to provide more information.

Hi @TraceyC77

Thank you for sharing logs, are you seeing this issue after booting up the system or after suspend/resume operation.

Thanks for the reply. I was seeing this after booting the system. I haven’t seen this crash in a couple of weeks. Currently on:

NVIDIA binary driver 570.190
kernel 6.16.12
